Let's Try This Again

Saturday, I had written a beautiful, lengthy  blog and then my evil computer's cord became unplugged and alas, I lost my lovely writings.  So here's to a new post and a new week.

Last week was definitely a downer for me.  Blood tests came back negative so I'm still in the dark about my diagnosis.  I dropped my phone and killed it and now I can't remember the other stuff.  I am frustrated, sad, angry, and a host of other emotions.  I decided I need three things from the Lord:  encouragement, energy, and I CAN"T REMEMBER THE OTHER THING.  Having whatever this is is so maddening.  Sometimes I just want to give up and stay in bed all the time but I have these 2 beautiful children depending on me.  I am blessed beyond belief to have a hard working husband and a job where I can work at home (even if it's only minimum wage) 

I wanted this to be a couponing blog about saving money and great deals but it's turning more into a journey into the unknown.  I pray you stick with me and we'll ride this out!

Can't Think of a Catchy Title

Here it is Saturday and I'm on the laptop and writing.  Strange!  Last year at this time, I would be at youth football games, cheering, screaming, and sweating.  I miss seeing everyone and cheering but it has been so nice not having so much going on.  Especially with my crazy health.  Got my test results back Thursday and everything was normal.  So off to another doctor I go next week.  If I still don't have any answers, I give up.  I'm tired.


With this lack of energy, let me tell you what grocery store has been heaven sent.  ALDI.  I suggest seeing if there is one in your neck of the woods  aldi.com.  No coupons to deal with and really great prices on milk, produce, and other basic items.  Here's what I always buy when I'm there:

1.  Baked chips - sometimes I can get them for $1.49 a bag but mostly the price is $1.99.  Baked chips at other stores are usually on sale for $3.00 so you'll save $1.00 or more.

2.  Saltine crackers - $0.69 a box.  Can't beat that!

3.  Milk - the price goes up and down but it's holding steady at $3.49.  I try to look for better deals but if I'm already there, I'll pick some up.

4.  Canned goods - Around $0.49 a can.

5.  Produce - most of the time, they have really good sales.  Look carefully before you buy for any sign of mold.  I stock up and freeze berries whenever they are on sale.

6.  Lean Ground Beef - Around $3.49 a lb.  Great deal but I do not recommend it for grilled hamburgers.  They just taste funny to us.

7.  Buns and Bread - For $0.79 you can get hamburger buns, hot dog buns, or a loaf of white bread.  I was in there yesterday and all three were marked down to 25 cents.  Unfortunatly my freezer is full.

Waiting....

Yesterday I finally went to the doctor.  Told them my crazy symptoms and had my blood drawn (I had to take 2 sedatives beforehand).  My iron, blood sugar, and blood counts are normal and now I'm waiting for the results that had to be sent to the lab.  I'm not sure how I want the results to turn out.  On one hand, it would be nice to have a physical reason for this and not have these unseen symptoms.  On the other, I'm scared of that.  So, here I sit, playing the waiting game.

M.I.A.

I'm sorry it's been three days.  Busy, yet relaxing weekend.  DD woke up snuffly yesterday so she missed school already.  She's feeling better thanks to a humidifier and prayer.


Went to the doctor last week and was told I have a lot of stress.  No duh!  She increased my meds and I'm feeling tons better, for now.  It's hard to believe it'll last so I'm taking advantage of this energy.  Cleaning house, exercising, making healthier eating decisions.







I'm loving Netflix right now that I know how to use it somewhat.  I might have mentioned we removed cable and our land line phone.  We're saving over $100 a month!  It's really been a huge blessing.  We now go for family walks and watch movies we either rent using free codes at Blockbuster Express or from the library.  My children are not being exposed to immoral behaviors and behavior.  They're also not being bombarded with advertising to influence them not to be content with what they have.

Friday.

Heard some really upsetting news yesterday and today.  Retail therapy was a Band-Aid on my emotions.  But I saw some really good deals.  Here we go!



Had a $10 off $10 or more purchase - Bought a Nike shirt for DS for $4.00

Next stop was Target.  Had a prescription to fill so I wasted time looking around.  Lots of  clearance in food and women's shoes.  Only bought a 3 pack of foil loaf pans (for future pumpkin bread, I hope).  On sale for 56 cents.

Target also has a daily deal.  Check them out here target.com  Deal today is Mossimo Juniors Gauchos Buy 1 Get 1 free for $12.00.  I can't wear gauchos in public.  Makes me look dumpy.




Can't avoid Walmart.  Just had some ad matches.  Nothing special. 


Now I'm scared to balance the checkbook.  Prayers please.

So sorry for my absence.  It seems my evil laptop is not wanting to cooperate with me.  I think the memory may be full or something of that nature.

Also sorry for being distracted at the moment.  I'm at the end of  Source Code.  Excellent movie.  No smoochy stuff, a F word, and a Gd.  I might have mentioned we cancelled cable in the Diary household exactly 9 days ago.  I have been watching a lot of movies.  Between Netflix's free trial and a boatload of Blockbuster Express codes for free movies (I'll try to post some of them in the future), I might be caught up on almost thirteen years of not going to the movies regularly.  I don't think so, unfortunately, but give me time.  Here's a list of some of my watches:

Sweet Freedom

Today I feel as free as a bird.  Immensely enjoying the quiet.  Just wish I had more energy to clean this hot mess (myself and the casa).  Just ran by Publix and thought I would share my marvelous deals:




*2 bags of organic (yay!) Cascadian Farms Mixed Berries
        Had 2 manufacturers coupons plus Publix $2 off 2                                                    =  2.98

*2 Kotex Maxi Pads (glad I had coupons ~ much needed)

*2 Bottles of Sundown Vitamin D (purchase just for the overage)

*1 bottle of Soft Scrub cleanser (shelves were wiped clean last week, RRRR!)

Paid $3.93 before taxed (Had to pay $2.14 just in taxes. BOO!)

Peace and Quiet

Today is the first day back to school.  I was very upset dropping off my lil' dumplings this morning.  I came back home and felt so alone.  Been feeling so down lately and being alone and facing a messy house, did not cheer me up at all.  I knew I had to head to Food Giant (which doubles coupons up to $1.00 on Mondays!!) and put in a little time working.  Begrudgingly, I straightened up and headed to Food Giant.  Didn't find many bargains but here's my haul:

8 pints of Heinz Distilled Vinegar (I use it for household cleaning)

2 packets Sauer Taco Seasoning

1 Packet Sauer Grilling Marinade

1 Packet Sauer Mesquite Marinade

2 Boxes of Generic Cheerios (for yummy Breakfast cookies)

1 Box of Jim Dandy Quick Grits

2.5 lbs of Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts

1 20 oz.  Diet D Pepper (trying to break the habit)

My total came to $13.14.  I've done better, but I've done worse also.

Payday was Friday around the Housewife household.  Realized after paying bills, we have enough for either gas or groceries.  Not both.  Gasoline prices are devouring our budget.  Guess some bills will have to be put off.  Numero uno reason for my current depressed state.  Just need a little prayer please. 
T minus 1 hour till I pick up my peaches from the bus stop and the middle school.  Can't wait to see them!

Groceries, Cooking, and Cleaning - Oh my!

I'm behind in my household duties again.  Have lost my drive and hope the doctor can find it next week.  The kids and I did some maintenance work and we cleaned up the floor of their closets (they were bad!).  I've took a nap everyday this week, so far.  I'm kinda glad about the low energy this week since my babies go back to school Monday.  We can hang out and just relax.



Yesterday, we went swimming with my sister, her 7 year old son, and my precious 2 month old niece at her mother in law's home.  I honestly didn't want to go.  It's a 45 minute drive from here and we had no snacks or drinks to carry.  I knew how much my nephew and my kiddies were counting on this last hurrah before the end of summer.  So we loaded up a cooler of ice and ended up buying $11 worth of junky, fatty snack food (I paid for it later).  We all had a blast and me and my sister ended up sun burnt. Poo!



My DS spent the night with a friend last night (and will tonight I just found out).  So it's just me and the little missus today.  Cooked brunch and watched "I Love Lucy" episodes is all we've done so far today.  It's rainy and dreary outside and that matches my mood.  I told her we've gotta accomplish something today out of our one hundred things to do before Monday.  Maybe a little grocery shopping.  Today's a perfect day since yesterday's binge has left me nauseous and planning to start http://weightwatchers.com Monday. 



I know I've mentioned being burnt out couponing and running to all the different stores and drugstores.  Now I'm even sick of making menus.  We're cutting budgets in the Housewife household so I can continue being a housewife.  Cable and land line are gone as of this past Tuesday.  I know, I know - couponing is a way to save money but the deal aren't there like they were pre "Extreme Couponing".  So, I'm trying to buy just the basics and make things from scratch which is hard to do when I'm running on fumes.  Woe is me...ha, ha!

My Best Friend Procrastination

Uh oh! T minus 6 days till school starts. Still need shoes and assorted supplies. I realized this morning today is the last day to relax and enjoy our afternoon ritual of silent reading. There is something so calming about us all reading and the house being deathly quiet. Tomorrow is swimming and church; Thursday I have to pick up DS from sleepover with friend; Friday is errand day; Saturday taking DH to airport for business trip; and Sunday is church. Friday is our last morning to sleep late. Boo!

DD still needs school shoes and DS needs shorts. Both have told me they don't need shoes, there's are still good...lol. God love them! Growing up, DH and I had frugal childhoods so we usually make sacrifices to make sure our children have nice items. Granted, these items are always on clearance at a really great price. But I amazed at their selflessness (is that a word?) Every year when their birthdays and Christmas comes around, they both astonish me by telling me there is nothing they need and it takes them WEEKS to even come up with something they want. So Not Ready

Today is back to school shopping day. UGH! You can see how I'm procrastanating as it is now almost eleven AM. DD and I didn't wake up till nine and now we're watching The Game Plan (By the way, does anyone know the name of the ballet that was performed in that movie?) I've got my detailed list of where to go and what to buy but not the drive to get up yet. Money's so tight, these are things that have to be done. I have to trust that the Lord will provide but it's hard keeping the faith.

Here We Go Again....

I know it's been a few days since I've written.  Just been stressed out about money and depressed.  Feeling better about it today but praying for some financial blessings.

I've almost given up on couponing.  The deals are no where as good as they were before "Extreme Couponing".  I continue to save coupons but have no interest in clipping and organizing them.  I found shopping at Walmart, Dollar Tree, and ALDI give me the best prices on staple menu items and I'll use the coupons on things we need and better than free items.  Maybe when the kids get back in school, I'll go back to it.  Who knows?  Guess we'll see...

I've got to give another shout out to FlyLady.net.  She has made my OCD life so much easier and my kids have even hopped on board.  I haven't heard them whine about chores in a while!  It is so much easier to maintain than obsessively clean.

Fighting fatigue and depression this week has left me not wanting to cook.  I have just been so frustrated with having no extra money to grab something for dinner when I don't feel like cooking.  I've finally paid off one of my doctors bills so I go to see her in two weeks.  Yippee!!  I just want some answers about the fatigue and weird aches and pains.  We've been having BLTs and leftovers from DH grilling last week.  Last night splurged on Subway for the kids and me.  They split a BLT sub and I got a veggie pizza.  We ordered waters and we all ate for around $10.  I was very excited about that!  I used a buy one get free dessert from McDonald's and got two ice cream cones and a hot fudge sundae for $1.81!!

Last night was my DS first night in youth group.  He really enjoyed it and I can't believe my baby will be in 7th grade!  Got to hear a sermon I really needed to hear about money and trusting God with the details.  Really needed to hear that!

I'll go for now and read for a bit before heating up leftovers.  Ciao!

Let's Rock and Roll!

Ok, here we go.....  This is a new venture for me so please excuse my amatuerishness.  I decided to start a blog to chronicle the crazy happenings in my mind and life.  From the outside, my family looks perfect - husband, stay at home mom, twelve year old son, and eight year old daughter who excel in school and are quiet, well mannered, and intelligent.  We are far from perfect, as I will tell, but we have a love for each other and our Saviour.

Today started out as most days this summer.  Coffee, newspaper, check emails.  My children got dressed and cleaned their room without complaint while I started my domestic duties.  I use to constantly stress myself out with housework until I found flylady.net.  Truly, this website is a God send. Finished that and made way to seventh grade registration. No big deal, just time consuming.  Darling son (I will use DS to abbreviate) has math first period again and Teen Discoveries aka Home Ec second period, first semester only.  He groaned and was glad to leave.  He takes all Honors classes and is an A student but he's socially awkward.  He's a loner just like his mama.  Came home, ate, washed some clothes, and rested. (I have to take frequent rests because of overwhelming fatigue I've had every since I had mono two summers ago).  Packaged up some things I sold on Ebay and we left for the post office and library.  The darlings and I are avid readers so we left the library with a gazillion books to read before school starts in thirteen days :( 

So we return home with our literary treasures and collapse in the living room with noses in our books.  This has been the most relaxing ways we have been spending our brutally hot, humid summer days.  I don't know how I'll survive the return of school without these"breaks". 

Now it's time for dinner and I wish I could order pizza.  Alas, there is no money to waste after paying school fees.  Guess we'll have BLT's and call it a night.  DD (Darling Daughter) wants a friend to come over but I'm achy after my assault yesterday on four of our front bushes.  I've been getting stressed really easy lately and get these awful dizzy spells so I don't know about company tonight and hubby won't be home till late.

Sorry it's so boring; just trying to chronicle the everyday life of an Alabama Housewife.
